Diploma in Cardiac Technology (DCT)
In this diploma program, you learn about invasive procedures that are performed on the heart. The role of the cardiology technologist is to assist the physicians or surgeons in performing these procedures, and to be a part of a team. Cardiology technologists learn how to insert catheters into a patient’s groin and thread them into the heart via blood vessels after first administering anaesthetic and prepping the patient. They also assist in balloon angioplasties. During these procedures, cardiology technologists are responsible for monitoring EKGs and vital signs.
Objectives
Candidate who has completed their Diploma in Cardiac Technology Course, students will develop the basic skills necessary to monitor patients for any type of cardiac problems within a healthcare setting. The student will be able to do the ECG and other cardiac investigations enabling the doctor to make an accurate diagnosis and treat the patient.
